Stunning Landscape Photography

Photography by Fred Michel offers a collection of beautiful images from travels as far away as England and as close as Vermont. Landscape and outdoor photography are Fred's specialties. His untouched images feature gorgeous landscapes captured on high-resolution film, which offers a sharper, more defined look. He shoots on Fuji Velvia 50 film with Fuji 617 and Pentax 67 cameras for large formats, and he uses Nikon D700 and Pentax 645Z cameras for digital.

Based in Poultney, Vermont, Fred has shown his photos at museums and galleries throughout the area. His photos were on display at the Surdam Art Gallery at Green Mountain College in Poultney, the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland City, and the Pember Museum in Granville, New York. He has also displayed a 68-foot image of a crowd at a Fourth of July parade at the Poultney Historical Society.

Meet Fred

For over 40 years, Fred Michel has photographed stunning sceneries and faraway places,, from Hawaii to the English countryside.

Fred's love for photography began at an early age. His mother introduced him to the magic (and frustration) of a Kodak box camera. Since then, his interest in light and color has not waned. He still uses film (35 mm) and 6" x 7" slides, and he believes that one interesting image still counts as a good roll of film.

While he is mainly self-taught, Fred enrolled in journalistic photography courses at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, and has attended a formal workshops and several quests each year. He also has had one juried show, and another one is scheduled.

Fred Michel and his Dog

Photography is Fred's first love, but dentistry is a close second. He is a dentist at Poultney Dentistry and sees patients of all ages. His other passions include fly-fishing, speed skating, biking, dancing, reading, collecting antique guns, and playing with his dog Gerty.
